Andrew Maynard talks about his book Films from The Future: The Technology and Morality of Sci-Fi Movies and how the book threads together his love of the fantasy world’s of science fiction with some of the big ethical questions facing scientists in the real world today. It is the excitement of “can we?” tempered by the important questions of “should we?” through the eyes of movies like Jurassic Park, Gattaca, and Ex-Machina.

Maynard has a PhD in Physics from Cambridge, and is currently a professor in the School for the Future of Innovation and Society at Arizona State University, and spends more time than any sane person should watching sci-fi movies.
