Civil Rights in the 60's : A Story of Student Activists

This narrative tells the story of seven women and one man at the heart of a sit-in protesting decreased enrollment and hiring of African Americans at Swarthmore College and demanding a Black Studies curriculum. The book, written by the former students themselves, also includes autobiographical chapters, providing a unique cross-sectional view into the lives of young people during the Civil Rights era. The authors also include untold stories about their family backgrounds and their experiences as student activists. They share how friendships, out-of-the-box alliances, and a commitment to moral integrity strengthened them to push through and remain resilient in the face of adversity.

For years the media and some in the school community portrayed the peaceful protest in a negative light—this collective narrative provides a very necessary and overdue retelling of the revolution that took place at Swarthmore College in 1969. The group of eight student protestors have only recently begun to receive credit for the school’s greater inclusiveness, as well as the influence their actions had on universities around the country.

Zen Parenting Conference (with Dr. John Duffy)

Zen Parenting Conference (with Dr. John Duffy)

Parenting. Gender. Leadership. We all follow the script we have been given. The story we have been told and tell ourselves. We carry these perceptions with us, into our partnerships, parenting and places of work. There’s more to life than that. Let’s empower women, explore healthy masculinity, and embrace authenticity, because the story is ours to rewrite. Join us for another inspiring weekend you won’t want to miss, featuring Dr. John Duffy, author of Parenting the New Teen in the Age of Anxiety.

Parenting the New Teen in the Age of Anxiety

Kids are growing up with nearly unlimited access to social media and the internet, and unprecedented academic, social, and familial stressors. Starting as early as eight years old, children are exposed to information, thought, and emotion that they are developmentally unprepared to process. As a result, saving the typical “teen parenting” strategies for thirteen-year-olds is now years too late.

Dr. John Duffy’s parenting book is a new and necessary guide that addresses this hidden phenomenon of the changing teenage brain. Dr. Duffy, a nationally recognized expert in parenting for nearly twenty-five years, offers this book as a guide for parents raising children who are growing up quickly and dealing with unresolved adolescent issues that can lead to anxiety and depression.

Where Big Dreams are born, plans are shaped, and actionable steps are given to succeed.

If you are looking for a conference that will pull the BIG DREAMS out of you, you have come to the right place. We don’t focus on little problems, we focus on finding solutions. If you want to have your best year yet, come to Dream Con 2020.

Dream Con 2020 will allow you to take a close look at what you are currently doing and see if you can make any adjustments, guide you clearly through the essential goal setting and dreaming phase of your business or life, and help you create a game-plan for immediate implementation.

There is no fluff when you come to Dream Con. We give you strategies that can be used the second you leave the event.

What do we cover?

1. Defining the Dream

In today’s society, it is hard to figure out what you want to do in life because there are so many options. We talk about the important questions to ask before you start going after something you really don’t want in life.

2. Helping you shift your Mindset

In order to achieve the ‘BIG DREAM’ which you should always be striving to do, you will need to change your mindset. If you think the mindset you have right now is going to get you what you want in life you have a lot to learn.

3. How to actually put together a "REALISTIC" game plan to go after your DREAMS

A lot of times when you see someone successful you never see what they actually did to get there. The only way to find out how that person made it to their destination is to ask them. Most industry leaders are hard to gain access to which makes it very hard to gain the knowledge they had to be successful. We will pull back the curtains and allow you to see how we have leveled up in our businesses and lives.

4. How to take MASSIVE ACTION to obtain your wildest DREAMS

It is great to have a dream, it is nice to have a plan, but NOTHING can happen unless you take massive action towards your goals and dreams. What separates our conference from others is that we will share with you ways to take action in your respective industries so that you can start having success in your field.

Have your say:

This conference places a large emphasis on interaction. You’ll have the opportunity to pose questions in a Q&A segment which will conclude the Dream Con Conference.

Who should attend?

Dream Con is an in depth conference, held at various locations. It is suitable for new and seasoned entrepreneurs that want to learn some strategies to take their business to the next level, as well as individuals that want to learn new strategies they can start applying to their lives and careers now and have their best year yet.

Seats are LIMITED, so we advise reserving your spot as early as possible.

Other takeaways from the day:

Inspiration and motivation to take your business, life, and career to the next level by keynotes from an international speaker, complemented by insightful case studies and panel discussions.

New valuable connections made over a facilitated networking breakfast and networking session to make sure you are fostering new relationships.

Meet the people

Dream Con is an Inspirational conference put on by New Era Thinking LLC and Closer To Our Dreams LLC. Each conference will have new information and themes. The ultimate goal of these conferences is to give back to our community by giving Top level information at a very AFFORDABLE price and providing an experience that is like no other experience in the industry.

As we continue to grow the brand and the conference we will be looking to partner with Top industry leaders and offer a way for them to provide our audience new strategies and information to help grow our businesses and ourselves. We will also start offering sponsorship opportunities for those that want to help our community.
