I find that this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere that the greyness can really get to me. Apart from taking Vitamin D and getting on planes which are going South (which is not a feasible daily activity!) I have cultivated a number of other practices to help me navigate the grey days.
One practice is to get outside - as Sir Ranulph Fiennes said - there’s no wrong weather, only wrong clothing. Putting on some warm snow boots, maybe some snow-pants and hats and gloves etc, I take my dog for a long walk, or take my kids sledding. If the weather is really cold I will cover my mouth and nose so I am breathing slightly warmer air.
The second is to incorporate energizing backbends & breath practices into my yoga: camel pose and wheel pose, and a round of kappalabhati (skull-shining) breath, are great natural ways to boost your energy, especially in that post-lunch lull where reaching for caffeine can impact the quality of your sleep.
The third is to use essential oils! I have been using essential oils since my grandmother would massage my tired hockey limbs as a teenager. For years I have recommended essential oils to my clients. Last year I took the leap and decided to become a doTERRA Wellness Advocate because their oils are 100% CPTG™ (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade). Because their fragile chemistry is kept intact in the harvesting and distillation process, these oils are pristine in both scent AND in therapeutic value.
To boost your energy:
Place a drop of peppermint on the palm of one hand, a drop of wild orange on the other. Rub them together and inhale deeply.
Diffuse cypress and lime - creating a lively invigorating aroma in your home!
