Motivated Mom / I Found Peace And Happiness At The Motivated Mom Retreat

During the Motivated Mom Retreat I learned a few valuable lessons about peace and happiness. Unlike last year, these lessons were unexpected but welcomed. In life there will always be things that are beyond our control. Things that if allowed to will haunt us and have a lasting impact on the quality of our life. When this happens the only thing you can really do is try to make peace with it and peace with yourself without letting it affect your state of being happy. Here are a few suggestions to help you make peace with the things you cannot change and create your happy.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR PEACE AND HAPPINESS

Be Kind to Yourself

Depending on your situation being kind to yourself might be the hardest thing imaginable right now. But it is such an important step in your growth and acceptance that I had to put it first. Being kind to yourself means knowing your limits and not beating yourself up over them, learning to say no, and being able to forgive yourself. It means never thinking that you’re unworthy of love, peace and happiness. It means making sure that you’re getting the help you need if you need it.

Look at the Bigger Picture

When something goes wrong it can seem like the entire universe is falling apart. That’s why it is so beneficial to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Realize that yes, the world is still turning. One great way to do this is to go out to a lookout point above a city and watch it in motion. You can even do this from a coffee shop in the city. Watch the people going about their day and know that they too have faced situations like yours. One of my favorite places to go is the arrival hall for the airport. So many happy reunions to watch there it is truly life affirming.

Focus on What You’re Doing

If your mind keeps wandering back to the thing you can’t change then keep yourself distracted. A lot of people will dive into their work while others will take up a new hobby. Do something that actively requires you to be at peace and happy and your mind to be present. Writing and yoga is a perfect example of this. Your mind has to be there in the moment for you to be able to write and do yoga.

Use Your Body

Being physically active not only distracts your mind it’s great for your body too. Go out for a jog and you’ll feel your mood rise as your heartrate does. Music has a direct line to your soul, so go out dancing! Getting out in nature for paddle boarding will help you get out of a slump you might be in right now.

Look for a New Beginning

Every story has an end but in life every end is a new beginning. Find the new beginning in your situation. The loss of a job gives you the opportunity to pursue your dream. New opportunities are always presenting themselves, you just have to know where to look and be ready to take that leap when the chance comes. This new beginning will help you come to terms with your situation as you realize that you never would have had the opportunity without that other thing happening first.

It may take a lot of work and a lot of time but I know that you’ll get there. Don’t be afraid to reach out if you need help. Surround yourself by people who you love and remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other and KEEP MOVING FORWARD!
