MonsterThinks/ Activist Badges and Pins

The awesome thing about opening up activism to everyone is that people then promote causes that they're passionate about and you get to see which causes are on people's minds at the time. As part of the "Art as a Game Changer: Art for a Cause or a Cause for Art" panel for Melbourne Fringe Festival I ran an Activist Badge Making Workshop where attendees could make a badge (or two!) about any cause they wanted. This is that workshop! - Art for a cause or a cause for Art? Is there an onus on artists to probe fault lines, social protocols and areas of discomfort, or to create art that encourages social change? What about art for art’s sake? Join this discussion to hear from a diverse panel of artists and activists who will come together to talk about the role of art and social change. The panel, which includes craftivist Sayraphim Lothian, founder and CEO of L2R Jacinda Richards, disability and LGBTI rights activist Jax Jacki Brown, and actor Ian Michael, will be facilitated by writer and textile artist Heather Horrocks. "Art as a Game Changer: Art for a Cause or a Cause for Art" presented as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival. Produced by Arts and Culture Maribyrnong, in association with Victoria University.
