Apartment Therapy / A Classic Rock-Inspired Home Has the Cutest Pink Plant-Themed Powder Room

Name: Andrea Isabelle Lucas, my partner, and two kids, ages 12 and 19
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Size: 2500 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years, owned

Our home is just north of Boston, built in 1880. My favorite original feature is the wide pine plank floors. I have a love of classic rock, mid-century modern style, and also do circus arts in my spare time. I could never feel at home somewhere average or plain-looking. Our home is filled with framed record albums, circus prints, aerial silks, and other quirky accents like hand-shaped light fixtures, a mint green fridge, and a Pacman mural wall.

I’m Andrea Isabelle Lucas, an entrepreneur and feminist author. I own Barre & Soul studios, with five locations in New England, and I recently released my first book, Own It All. I live here with my partner, who is an architectural designer, and two kids, ages 12 and 19.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: 1880s meets Classic Rock

What is your favorite room and why? I love the kitchen/formal living room because they are open to each other and full of details I love like the mint green retro fridge, cow hide, pink piano, and Beatles memorabilia.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I recently turned an unused eaves space into a walk-in closet in the attic master suite, complete with a lighted vanity mirror and seating area. I just ordered the Modern Balloon Glass chandelier from West Elm to hang above the stairs and complement that space.

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Ziggy Stardust? Or maybe Sergeant Pepper.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Perfectionism is the worst. It stops you from getting anything done. Don’t worry about finding the perfect item. “Done” is better than perfect. Bring it in, try it out, if you really don’t like it, return it and try something else!
