Everybody Craps

By

Sometimes a kid can be afraid to go potty, and that’s okay. It’s weird. It’s gross. But eventually the kid has to crap. For parents who are trying to persuade their little bundle of joy to do the deed on the toilet, here’s a book that understands the struggle. From roosters crapping in the morning to owls crapping in the evening, everyone hits the john at some point and it’s just a matter of convincing the little one it’s not so bad. Really. It isn’t. With this parody of potty-training books, parents can share in the common frustration over a little one who won’t go near the toilet, while enjoying the serene nature of origami animals taking a crap.

The Boston Marathon Bombing

By

New from AP Editions: The Boston Marathon Bombing. Be sure to check out the full line of breaking news books by the AP. http://www.ap.org/books/ The Boston Marathon isn’t just an athletic event – it’s a citywide celebration and a rite of spring. Begun in 1897, it is the world's oldest annual marathon, run every Patriots’ Day. The course winds its way through eight cities and towns, 26.2 miles that lead from suburban Hopkinton to the Boston's Back Bay. For Bostonians, the race marks the end of winter, a time to pull out lawn chairs, sit at the side of the course and cheer a global contingent of runners. In 2013, the event changed irrevocably when two bombs exploded near the finish line, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others. A manhunt ensued that paralyzed the city. At its end, Tamerlan Tsarnaev lay dead and his brother, Dzhokhar, critically wounded, was in law enforcement hands. Convicted and sentenced, Dzhokhar now faces the consequences of American justice. AP Editions takes a behind-the-scenes look at the case and the journalists who covered it, from the start of the race through the death penalty hearing.

Defeating the Islamic State Group

By

In September 2014, Islamic State group fighters captured about 300 Kurdish villages near Kobani, Syria, and then thrust into the town itself, occupying almost half of it and sending tens of thousands of refugees fleeing into Turkey. Unsure if Kobani would hold, U.S. officials including Secretary of State John Kerry spent weeks saying the town wasn't a U.S. priority. But, a small makeshift coalition of Kurdish Peshmerga forces from Iraq, Kobani Kurds (including Kurdish women fighters) and combatants from the Free Syrian Army refused to give in to the Islamic State militants. Under a steady pounding from U.S. – led air power and the tenacity of the Kobani defenders, IS was forced to retreat in January 2015, leaving over 1,000 of its best fighters dead. Follow the weeks of fighting through the photos and stories of Associated Press journalists, as Kobani became proof that the Islamic State group can be defeated.
